You didn't think Coldplay would break out a new album without a tour to follow, did you? Chris Martin and company are planning an extensive trek through the States and beyond.



Coldplay's bizarrely titled new album, Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends – previously dubbed just Viva La Vida – will drop June 17. The 10-song follow up to 2005's X&Y will feature colorfully titled songs like "Violet Hill," "Life in Technicolor" and "Strawberry Swing."

Twelve days later, the band will embark on a 90-date tour with a show in Philadelphia on June 29, after which they'll wind their way through the States, Canada, back through the U.S. and beyond. The jaunt will reportedly continue through 2009. The tour's first leg will also see the band playing arenas in Europe, and the band will be playing free shows in London and New York.

Coldplay manager Dave Holmes told Billboard that Coldplay's set will feature "lots of projection" and "really blow people away."

Tickets for select North American dates will go on sale May 16-17 at Coldplay.com, though most tix will be available starting June 14. Prior to the new tour's launch, Coldplay will play a pair of free shows in London (June 16 at Brixton Academy) and New York (June 23 at Madison Square Garden). Passes for those shows will be available on the band's Web site via a contest that starts today.
