What Ashlee Simpson, Mandy Moore and other celebs are doing on New Year's Eve

Just because you can only afford to crack open a cheap bottle of Korbel this year while snacking on generic-brand pretzels doesn't negate you from living vicariously through the glamorous New Year's Eve parties of jet-setting celebs! Case in point: There will be dueling Miami-based blowouts hosted by Ashlee Simpson and Mandy Moore, respectively. Who's more popular? We'll find out after the confetti has settled.

Find out more details about the Miami parties and also what several other celebs are up to around the country on New Year's Eve from A Socialite's Life!

What's Ashlee up to this year? Find out here!

Radiohead wins big on sales of 'In Rainbows'

"In terms of digital income, we've made more money out of this record than out of all the other Radiohead albums put together,"  says front man Thom Yorke, in a new interview.  The pay-what-you-want model Radiohead used for In Rainbows was under fire recently when a report came out saying almost two thirds of downloaders didn't pay a cent for the new album. Lily Allen: 'That whole retirement thing? Rubbish'

Lily Allen had us all going when she said she planned to retire at age 25.  The 22 year-old songstress has since clarified that statement saying,

"Of course I'm not going to retire. This was the biggest joke in my life and I just cannot believe people would actually believe this junk."

"I talk c**p all the time and they all know it, so how come this time they didn't get it. Silly people. I am having the best time of my life."

Sweet.  That means we'll get to hear more inspired work from Lily in the future, although Stereogum doesn't think we'll see a new album until sometime in 2009.

In the meantime, Lily has recorded a cover of Electric Light Orchestra's Mr. Blue Sky
(one of my all-time faves) for a French phone company.  You can see the commercial here and listen to the full song here.

Filter Magazine's top ten albums of 2007

So there's this little magazine called Filter and they do some really cool stuff, like... The top ten albums of 2007 list.  Here it is, in all it's indie-centric glory.  My comments in bold:

1. Radiohead, In Rainbows -- Um... Yes.
2. Band of Horses, Cease To Begin -- Love these guys.
3. Arcade Fire, Neon Bible -- Combine comments #1 and #2
4. The Good, The Bad & The Queen, The Good, The Bad & The Queen
5. Animal Collective, Strawberry Jam
6. Elvis Perkins, Ash Wednesday
7. LCD Soundsystem, Sound of Silver
8. The National, Boxer -- Should have been higher.  Probably my favorite album this year.
9. Great Northern, Trading Twilight For Daylight
10. Andrew Bird, Armchair Apochrypha -- Another great choice.
